The regulatory framework: EASA Part-MED and DGAC

This page gives a general overview. For any specific question, refer to the texts published by EASA and the information provided by the DGAC.

The EU Aircrew Regulation

Regulation (EU) No 1178/2011, known as “Aircrew”, sets the requirements for civil aviation aircrew. Its Annex IV, Part-MED, covers medical requirements: certificates, examiners, centres and fitness requirements.

AMC and GM

Acceptable Means of Compliance (AMC) and Guidance Material (GM) published by EASA explain how to apply the requirements. They are updated regularly.

The role of the DGAC

In France, the Directorate General for Civil Aviation (DGAC) is the competent authority: approval of AeMCs and AMEs, oversight, handling of certain medical files and information for aircrew.

Where to find the texts

Consolidated versions (“Easy Access Rules”) are available on the EASA website. National information is published by the DGAC.
