Frequently asked questions

General answers. They replace neither the official texts nor the opinion of an AME.

Which class of medical certificate do I need?

It depends on your licence: class 1 mainly for professional pilots, class 2 for private pilots, the LAPL certificate for LAPL holders. Cabin crew undergo a specific assessment.

Where do I take my first class 1 medical?

The initial class 1 examination is in principle carried out at an aeromedical centre (AeMC). The list of approved centres is published by the authorities.

What is the difference between a CEMPN, an AeMC and an AME?

An AeMC is a centre approved under Part-MED; a CEMPN is a French Military Health Service centre, some of which are approved for civil aviation; an AME is an individually approved doctor.

How long is my certificate valid?

Validity depends on class, age and type of operation. It is set by Part-MED: check the EASA texts or ask your AME.

What should I do if I have a health issue?

Talk to an AME or an AeMC. med4sky does not provide individual medical advice.

Where can I find the official texts?

On the EASA website (easa.europa.eu) for European rules and on the DGAC website for national information.
